Sponsoring Hinsdale Newcomers Association

Posted on October 25, 2016 in Uncategorized

Kathryn L. Harry & Associates, P.C. is proud to announce our association with and sponsorship of the Newcomers and Neighbors of the Greater Hinsdale Area social club. If you've not heard of this organization before for some mysterious reason, especially if you're new to the area, then you should do yourself a favor and check it out. And although the official name says Hinsdale, it encompasses much more. As their website says, membership is also open to all residents, both established and new, of the nearby towns of Oak Brook, Clarendon Hills, Burr Ridge, and Westmont.

So what is the Hinsdale Newcomers & Neighbors all about? Let Janet Roxworthy, co-president of the club, recently quoted in the Chicago Tribune, sum it up: "If you have been looking for fun new ways to meet people in the area, Newcomers & Neighbors is a great way to make connections. Whether you are new to town or a long-time resident, Newcomers & Neighbors is a club that creates opportunities to get together with people who have similar interests by providing socials, activities, clubs and sports on a regular basis."

For those of you who have been involved with similar groups in the past that were disappointing because they just never really did anything, well you're in for a pleasant surprise. This is a very active club with a lot of enthusiastic members, and there are always fun activities and events to attend, held monthly and even weekly. There are both formal social events where just about everyone comes together, and smaller groups of people pursuing shared interests.

Loads of Activities

Just a quick look at one month's calendar shows a Guy Flick Night, a Chick Flick Night, a Book Club Meeting, two actually, one in the daytime and one at night, a Cooking Club get-together, Euchre Night, Men's Poker Night, a Philanthropy Club Lunch, and Bunco Night. Not to mention a couple of board meetings. And that's a pretty average month.

For those who are wondering, Bunco is a team sport played with three dice. It's described as more of a way to get to know your neighbors than a competition.

Other activities include Friday Night Live evenings, described as excursions to local watering holes and/or restaurants, or perhaps to member's homes for dinner, games, and conversation, golf outings all season from April through October at Downer's Grove Golf Course or at Flagg Creek Golf Course, and Happy Hour on the third Monday of each month at a tavern or pub, a different place each month, for convivial camaraderie.

Then there are the formal events. Each year these include an Annual Holiday Party for the mid-winter celebrations, a New Year's Party of course, a Super Bowl Party with a much anticipated Chili Cook-Off, A St. Patrick's Day Progressive Dinner, a Halloween Costume Party, a Summer Social, and wine tastings from time to time.

In short, the Newcomers and Neighbors of the Greater Hinsdale Area social club is a great way to get to know your neighbors, make new friends, welcome new residents to the area, and have a reliable source of recreation and entertainment. It brings to mind the old Welcome Wagon groups of days gone by, except much more developed, and well, fun.

By becoming a sponsor of the group, as a local business or individual, you'll be advancing the cause of fellowship and goodwill within your community, as well as helping people to get to know you and your own unique contribution to the area. Talk about a win-win situation.

For more information you should of course get in touch with Newcomers and Neighbors of the Greater Hinsdale Area, but if you'd like to know more about why Kathryn L. Harry & Associates, P.C., P.C. is a sponsor, just give us a ring and we'll be happy to tell you.
