Westmont DUI Lawyer

If you struggle with a significant substance abuse problem that resulted in you facing charges on a non-violent felony, Illinois Drug Court may be an option for you. Drug Court is an alternative to jail, a mechanism that could turn your legal prospects around for the positive. Participation in Drug Court is not automatic, however; you must apply for acceptance into the program and meet certain eligibility criteria.

The experienced and knowledgeable criminal defense attorneys at Kathryn L. Harry & Associates, P.C. can help you determine your eligibility and advocate for your participation in Drug Court. We have successfully represented clients charged with drug possession in DuPage, Cook, Kane, and Will Counties.

Drug Court Programs in Illinois

The Illinois Drug Court program is operated within the State's criminal court system and is designed to provide drug-addicted defendants, charged with a non-violent felony, with the treatment, counseling, support, and resources needed to recover from drug addiction. Selectees agree to participate in treatment, counseling, frequent and regular drug testing, regular court appearances, and otherwise abide by all program rules. Drug Court programs are rigorous and intense, and successful completion takes determination and commitment. But, the payoff is huge. Drug Court program graduates may have the criminal charges pending against them dismissed, or their sentence reduced or eliminated. More importantly, however, is that successful participants leave the program with the skills needed to live a life free from addiction.

Your application for Drug Court participation requires the approval of both the court and the prosecutor. You are not eligible for Drug Court if you:

  • Are charged with a violent crime.
  • Have been convicted of a violent crime within the past 10 years, excluding incarceration.
  • Deny you are drug addicted.
  • Are unwilling to participate in the program and meet its requirements.
