Two charged for the shooting of teen

A teen-aged boy was shot on January 16 outside a high school basketball game at Chicago State University. Two men face charges and no bail for the shooting. The Chicago Tribune reported a story on the shooting.

According to authorities, Michael McNabb, 32, and 29-year-old Stephen Gilbert were both charged with murder in the killing of the 17-year-old victim, Tyrone Lawson.

Lawson was shot around 9:20 p.m. on Wednesday night after Morgan Park had lost to Simeon High School. The shooting took place just outside the CSU gymnasium near 95^th Street and King Drive.  Lawson was pronounced dead at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

Lawson's cause of death was multiple gunshot wounds in a homicide, the Cook County medical examiner's office declared a day after the incident. Lawson's 41-year-old aunt, Kurtistein Bailey, told the media that Lawson was shot twice in the back when he was running away.

Chicago police said they got a quick message from University Police to watch for a Jeep, and McNabb and Gilbert were taken into custody when the Jeep was pulled over and a gun was found inside the vehicle.

There had been an argument in a handshake line after the game, but it is unclear if these two incidents were connected.
