Drug Possession Defense Attorneys Assist Clients With Qualifying for Alternative Treatment Programs

Westmont DUI Lawyer

If you have been charged with a nonviolent crime stemming from your substance and/or alcohol abuse, you may be eligible for programs offered under Treatment Alternatives for Safe Communities ("TASC"). Successful completion of these TASC programs can minimize the penal impact of the criminal offense and provide you with the resources to manage your substance and/or alcohol dependency. Knowledgeable and experienced representation and advocacy can play a part in whether you are placed in TASC probation programs. The skilled attorneys at Kathryn L. Harry & Associates, P.C. have successfully advocated for clients throughout the greater Chicago area for the right to participate in TASC probation programs.

Eligibility for TASC Probation in Illinois

TASC probation provides an opportunity for individuals to have their criminal conviction vacated or the charges dismissed, upon successful completion of probation. Available to individuals who are charged with nonviolent crimes and struggle with drug and/or alcohol abuse, this program is designed to alleviate the strain that drug and alcohol addiction and related crimes place on society, and it also provides an alternative to imprisonment. Participation in TASC probation is not automatic, and eligibility factors are set by statute. To meet the requirements for TASC probation, the courts will assess your:

  • Criminal history
  • Addiction history
  • Readiness for treatment
  • Likelihood of success through program participation

Generally, those convicted of violent crimes, certain drug offenses or DUI-type offenses are precluded from participating in TASC probation. If you are sentenced to the TASC probation program, you will have the opportunity to participate in various mental and medical health programs, educational and vocational programs, and substance abuse treatment programs. Participation requirements and expectations may be rigorous, but the benefits can be life-altering. Progress and compliance are monitored through case management and reported directly to the court. Upon completion of the TASC program, professionals recommend an appropriate disposition and a new opportunity for you, free of drug dependency.
